P-Tech Students Tour KRI

  KRI-student-tour

KRI hosted the inaugural class of P-Tech (a national initiative promoting careers in skilled trade) students from Poudre High School. Students learned the role ion sources play in shaping the future of technology, what education and experience is needed for a career in this field and toured the facility to see how ion sources are assembled.

For the students, the highlight was seeing a working ion source complete with an arcing ion beam. For niche industries like ion sources, educating the youth to the array of careers in this field will only bolster the advances in ion technology as young people learn how dynamic and exciting these careers can be. For KRI, the highlight was watching employees young and old, from all walks of life, relate to the next generation of workers over a mutual love of science and technology.

For all the young people who dreamed of going to space when they were little, learning the ion source’s history originated with space propulsion only furthered their excitement about the types of careers possible in this field.

It’s easy to forget that many of the jobs our young people will hold haven’t even been invented yet, as it wasn’t even 20 years that an app developer or lyft driver wasn’t a job, so reminding students, teachers, and existing workers that dreaming of the impossible is what moves progress forward was the true benefit of the tour.

Whistler Conference Centre, Whistler, British Columbia Canada

June 19, 2022 – June 24, 2022

Held every three years, the OIC conference has served for the past four decades as the premier conference on the topic of optical interference coatings. Scientists, researchers, engineers, and students from all around the world attend to present, learn, and exchange ideas about the latest advancements in the field.

OIC 2022 will cover all aspects of optical coatings, including fundamental research on coating design theory, materials, deposition methods, characterization technologies and applications in electronic displays, optical communication, high power and ultra-fast lasers, sensing, solar cells, low-emissivity coatings, optical instruments, and space.

Like its predecessors, OIC 2022 will consist of five days of oral and poster presentations.  None of the sessions are held in parallel, so attendees can listen to a short presentation on every paper and then choose to visit the posters of greatest interest.

Expanding for Innovation Update - 5!

We are excited to once again share another Expanding for Innovation Update! Our new facility is nearing completion, and we are eagerly awaiting a confirmation for a move in date.

Update Details

Interior Finishes

Our internal teams have begun planning out office and work spaces, and have met to pick our finishes, desks, and workstation supplies.  Drywall, electrical and plumbing installations have also begun and are nearing completion.

Exterior Advances

Since this photo of the entry-way work was taken last month, the rock-face has been completed. The entry-way of the new building mirrors that of our original facility.

Landscaping has also begun, and parking lot entrances are now open and accessible.

Looking ahead

While we don't have an exact date for move in, many of our teams are working hard behind the scenes to gather products and supplies for the move. The added space for collaboration, and extra space for future growth will surely be an asset, that will not only help us expand on our R & D mission,  but our larger company-wide goals as well.

Check back in soon for what will hopefully be our final Expanding for Innovation Update!
